What do the PVC pipes coming out of my house do?

I live in a townhouse w/siding. On the outside of my house are PVC pipes coming from the inside of the house. They appear to be some type of drains. Does anyone know what they may be for? Can snakes get into them and if so, where do they lead? Also, can snakes come up thru the toilet and if so, how? Thanks in advance.
