Why does it look like peoples faces change in the dark?

The same thing has happened to me.Once my mom was getting mad at me. I was in my bed and it was almost dark.Her face kept turning into a witch face. I had to keep looking away to make her face turn back again, but it kept going back and forth. Then she kept getting mad at me for not looking at her. It was really weird. I don't know why that happens.
