The gap between the North and the South?

Geography and climate dictated that the South would be an agrarian society and the North would be a manufacturing society. While the North had no need for slavery, they benefited from the practice. They did not accept escaped slaves and Boston Harbour received more slave ships than Charleston Harbour. Slavery came under fire more for political and financial reasons than for moral ones. The abolitionist's rhetoric therefore came across as hypocritical.
