Is a 1987 mazda b2200 a good truck?"anyone with mechanical experience"?

my friend is selling a 87 mazda b2200, and im interested in buying it but don't want to invest in it if the truck is going to give me mechanical problems.he told me all it needs is a new muffler cause the one it has is blown.this will be the first time i buy a car/truck with my own money and i don't want to make a bad decision.hes selling it to me around $1600-$1800.can anyone with mechanical experience inform me please. thanks!
